List of Korean Dishes

The cuisine of Korea is largely based on rice, vegetables, and meats. Traditional Korean meals are noted for the number of side dishes (banchan) that accompany steam-cooked short-grain rice. Here is a list of some of the most popular and traditional Korean dishes.

Main Dishes[edit]

Bibimbap - A Korean rice dish. The term "bibim" means mixing various ingredients, while the "bap" noun refers to rice.

Bulgogi - A Korean-style grilled or roasted dish made of thin, marinated slices of beef or pork grilled on a barbecue or on a stove-top griddle.

Samgyeopsal - A popular Korean dish that is commonly served as an evening meal. It consists of thick, fatty slices of pork belly meat.

Japchae - A sweet and savory dish of stir-fried glass noodles and vegetables that is popular in Korean cuisine.

Tteokbokki - A popular Korean food made from soft rice cake, fish cake, and the sweet red chili sauce called gochujang.

Soups and Stews[edit]

Kimchi jjigae - A variety of jjigae, or stew-like Korean dish, made with kimchi and other ingredients, such as scallions, onions, diced tofu, pork, and seafood.

Doenjang jjigae - A variety of jjigae, or stew-like Korean traditional dish, made with doenjang (Korean soybean paste) and available ingredients such as vegetables, mushrooms, and seafood.

Sundubu jjigae - A hot and spicy jjigae (Korean stew) dish made with uncurdled dubu (tofu), seafood (oysters, mussels, clams and shrimp are common ingredients), vegetables, mushrooms, onion, scallions, and chili powder.

Desserts[edit]

Patbingsu - A popular Korean shaved ice dessert with sweet toppings that may include chopped fruit, condensed milk, fruit syrup, and red beans.

Hotteok - A variety of filled Korean pancake, and is a popular street food of Korea.

Yakgwa - A traditional Korean sweet pastry that is rich in flavor and high in calories, as it is made mainly from honey, sesame oil, and wheat flour.
