Idaho is a state in the United States located in the Northwestern region. It is bordered by Montana to the east and northeast, Wyoming to the east, Nevada and Utah to the south, and Washington and Oregon to the west. To the north, it shares a small portion of the Canadian border with the province of British Columbia.
Geography[edit]
Idaho is a landlocked state with a varied landscape. It ranges from the vast Lake Coeur d'Alene in the panhandle to the arid plains of the southern region. The state's highest point is Borah Peak, which is part of the Rocky Mountains. Idaho's major rivers include the Snake River, the Clearwater River, and the Salmon River.
History[edit]
The area that is now Idaho was originally inhabited by Native American tribes before the arrival of European explorers. The state was eventually admitted to the Union on July 3, 1890, as the 43rd state.
Economy[edit]
Idaho's economy is diverse, with significant contributions from several sectors. The state is known for its agriculture, particularly its production of potatoes. Other important sectors include manufacturing, healthcare, and tourism.
Demographics[edit]
As of 2020, Idaho's population was estimated to be approximately 1.8 million. The state's largest city is Boise, which is also its capital.
Education[edit]
Idaho is home to several institutions of higher learning, including the University of Idaho, Boise State University, and Idaho State University.
Politics[edit]
Idaho is known for its conservative political leanings. The state has voted for the Republican presidential candidate in every election since 1964.
