Billie Eilish was born in Los Angeles, California, to actress and screenwriter Maggie Baird and actor Patrick O'Connell. She is of Irish and Scottish descent. Eilish was homeschooled and joined the Los Angeles Children's Chorus at age eight. She began writing songs at age 11, taking after her older brother Finneas, who was already performing and writing his own songs with his band.

2015–2017: Don't Smile at Me[edit]

In 2015, Eilish recorded the song "Ocean Eyes", written and produced by Finneas, and released it on SoundCloud. The song went viral, leading to a record deal with Interscope Records.
