CareFlight is a medical transport service that provides air ambulance, helicopter and road ambulance services for patients who require urgent medical assistance. CareFlight was established with the primary aim of providing critical care to patients in remote and regional areas, as well as in urban settings.

History[edit]

CareFlight was founded in 1986 with a single Bell 412 helicopter to serve as a rapid response critical care service for patients in remote and regional areas. Since then, CareFlight has grown to become one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world.

Services[edit]

CareFlight provides a range of services including emergency medical, inter-hospital transfers, neonatal and pediatric medical retrievals, major incident response, and disaster relief.

Emergency Medical Services[edit]

CareFlight's emergency medical services include rapid response to trauma and medical emergencies. These services are provided by highly trained paramedics and doctors who are capable of providing life-saving care in the field.

Inter-Hospital Transfers[edit]

CareFlight provides inter-hospital transfers for patients who require specialist medical care that is not available at their current hospital. This service is often used for patients who require urgent surgery, intensive care or other specialist treatments.

Neonatal and Pediatric Medical Retrievals[edit]

CareFlight has a dedicated team of neonatologists and pediatricians who provide neonatal and pediatric medical retrievals. This service is used for newborns and children who require urgent medical care.

Major Incident Response[edit]

CareFlight is equipped to respond to major incidents such as natural disasters, mass casualty incidents and public health emergencies. CareFlight's major incident response capabilities include airlift services, medical evacuations and disaster medicine.

Fleet[edit]

CareFlight operates a diverse fleet of aircraft including helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft and road ambulances. The fleet is equipped with advanced medical equipment to provide critical care in the air and on the ground.

Training[edit]

CareFlight also provides training for healthcare professionals in areas such as aeromedical retrieval, emergency medicine and disaster response. The training is provided through the CareFlight Training Academy.
