Yunnan

Yunnan is a province in the southwestern part of China. It is bordered by the Chinese provinces of Guizhou, Guangxi, Chongqing, Sichuan, and Tibet as well as the countries of Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar. Yunnan is known for its diverse culture, as it is home to several ethnic minorities, and its varied geography, which includes the Himalayas to the northwest and tropical rainforests to the south.

Geography

Yunnan is located in a mountainous area, with high elevations in the northwest and low elevations in the southeast. Most of the population lives in the eastern part of the province. The Yangtze River runs through the province from north to south.

History

Yunnan was later part of several different Chinese dynasties, and it became a province of China in the 13th century during the Yuan Dynasty.
