MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, a member of MedStar Health, is a hospital located in the Rosedale area of eastern Baltimore County, Maryland. It is the third largest hospital in Maryland and one of the largest employers in Baltimore County.
History[edit]
MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center was founded in 1898 as the first hospital in West Baltimore. In 1969, it moved to its current location in eastern Baltimore County. The hospital has a rich history of providing healthcare services to the community.
Facilities[edit]
The hospital is situated along Franklin Square Drive and is adjacent to the campus of Community College of Baltimore County - Essex. It serves as a clinical training site for allied health programs at the college.
In 2004, MedStar Franklin Square opened the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Cancer Institute, which specializes in the treatment of melanoma, gynecologic oncology, and breast cancer. The hospital also constructed a patient tower, spanning over 356,000 square feet, which was completed in 2010.
Recognition[edit]
MedStar Franklin Square has been designated as a Teaching Hospital Cancer Center by the American College of Surgeons. It is also accredited as a Magnet hospital for nursing, a recognition it received in 2008 and was reaccredited in 2013. The hospital has been honored with the Excellence Award for Quality for Hospitals by the Delmarva Foundation in 2009, 2011, and 2012.
