Monica Lin Brown (born May 24, 1988) is a former United States Army soldier who was awarded the Silver Star for her heroic actions during the War in Afghanistan. She is notable for being one of the few women to receive the Silver Star since World War II.

Early Life

Monica Lin Brown was born in Lake Jackson, Texas. She grew up in a family with a strong tradition of military service, which inspired her to enlist in the United States Army at the age of 17. Brown completed her basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and went on to receive advanced training as a combat medic.

Military Career

Deployment to Afghanistan

In 2007, Brown was deployed to Afghanistan as part of the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. Her role as a combat medic was crucial in providing medical support to her fellow soldiers during combat operations.

Heroic Actions

On April 25, 2007, while on a mission in the Paktia Province, Brown's convoy was ambushed by enemy forces. During the attack, a roadside bomb exploded, injuring several soldiers. Despite the ongoing enemy fire, Brown ran through the gunfire to reach the wounded soldiers. She used her body to shield them from further harm while providing life-saving medical care.

Award of the Silver Star
