Legal action (pronunciation: /ˈliːɡəl ˈækʃən/) is a process in which a legal dispute is resolved by a court of law or similar legal process.

Etymology

The term "legal action" is derived from the Latin word "legalis", meaning "pertaining to the law", and the Old French word "accion", meaning "a doing or a thing done".
