Hospitality

Hospitality (pronunciation: /hɒspɪˈtalɪti/) is a term derived from the Latin word hospes, meaning "host". It refers to the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers.

Etymology

The term "hospitality" comes from the Latin hospes, which is formed from hostis, which originally meant "to be hostile". Over time, the term evolved to indicate a person who provides lodging to travellers. In contemporary usage, hospitality has come to mean the act of kindness in welcoming and looking after the basic needs of guests or strangers, mainly in relation to food, drink and accommodation.
