Hospitality Industry

The Hospitality Industry (pronunciation: /hɒspɪˈtalɪti ˈɪndəstri/) is a broad category of fields within the service industry that includes lodging, food and drink service, event planning, theme parks, and transportation. It includes hotels, tourism agencies, restaurants, and bars.

Etymology

The term "hospitality" comes from the Latin hospes, which came from the word hostis, which originally meant "to be hostile". Over time, hospes came to mean a stranger or foreigner, hence a guest. The word "industry" comes from the Latin industria, meaning "diligence, hard work".
