Health Care Reform (pronunciation: /ˈhelθ keər rɪˈfɔːrm/) refers to the changes in health policy that affect health care delivery in a given place. Health care reforms typically aim to broaden the population that receives health care coverage through either public sector insurance programs or private sector insurance companies.

Etymology

The term "Health Care Reform" is derived from the words "health care" and "reform". "Health care" (also healthcare) is the maintenance or improvement of health via the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, recovery, or cure of disease, illness, injury, and other physical and mental impairments in people. "Reform" means to make changes in (something, typically a social, political, or economic institution or practice) in order to improve it.
