Ergomania (/ɜːrɡoʊˈmeɪniə/; from the Greek ergon, meaning "work", and mania, meaning "madness") is a psychological condition characterized by an excessive and uncontrollable obsession with work.

The term "Ergomania" is derived from two Greek words: ergon which means "work", and mania which means "madness". Thus, it literally translates to "work madness".

Definition

Ergomania, also known as workaholism, is a condition where an individual is excessively preoccupied with work to the point where it interferes with their health, personal life, and social relationships. It is not officially recognized as a medical condition in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), but is widely acknowledged in the field of psychology and occupational health.
