The Boonshoft School of Medicine (pronunciation: /ˈbʊnʃɒft/), also known as BSOM, is a medical school located in Dayton, Ohio. It is part of the Wright State University and is named after Oscar Boonshoft, one of the university's benefactors.

Etymology

The name "Boonshoft" is of German origin, with "Boon" meaning "benefactor" and "Shaft" meaning "school". The school was named after Oscar Boonshoft, a philanthropist who made significant contributions to the university.

History

The Boonshoft School of Medicine was established in 1973 as part of the Wright State University. It was initially known as the Wright State University School of Medicine, but was renamed in 2005 in honor of Oscar Boonshoft.
