Zurich (pronunciation: /ˈzʊərɪk/ ZEWR-ik) is the largest city in Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Zurich. It is located in north-central Switzerland at the northwestern tip of Lake Zurich.
Etymology
The name Zurich is derived from the Celtic term "Turus", a reference to the water god worshipped in the area before the Roman conquest. The name was later Latinized to "Turicum" by the Romans, and eventually evolved into the modern name Zurich.
