Zhang Wuji
Zhang Wuji (張無忌) is the fictional protagonist of the wuxia novel The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber by Jin Yong. The novel is the third part of the Condor Trilogy, preceded by The Legend of the Condor Heroes and The Return of the Condor Heroes. Zhang Wuji is a central figure in the story, which is set during the late Yuan dynasty and early Ming dynasty.
Background[edit]
Zhang Wuji is the son of Zhang Cuishan and Yin Susu, both of whom are prominent martial artists. His father is a member of the Wudang Sect, while his mother is from the Heavenly Eagle Cult. Zhang Wuji's early life is marked by tragedy when his parents commit suicide to protect their friends and family from the Ming Cult's enemies.
Early Life[edit]
As a child, Zhang Wuji is poisoned by the Xuanming Elders and suffers from a debilitating illness. He is taken to Mount Wudang where he is raised by his uncle, Zhang Sanfeng, the founder of the Wudang Sect. Despite his illness, Zhang Wuji learns martial arts from his uncle and other Wudang masters.
Adventures and Rise to Power[edit]
Zhang Wuji's life changes dramatically when he discovers the secrets of the Nine Yang Manual and the Heaven and Earth Great Shift. These powerful martial arts techniques enable him to recover from his illness and become one of the most formidable martial artists of his time. He later becomes the leader of the Ming Cult and plays a crucial role in the rebellion against the Yuan dynasty.
