Etymology
The name "Wuhan University" is derived from the city it is located in, Wuhan, which is the capital of Hubei province. The city's name, Wuhan, is a portmanteau of the two major cities on the banks of the Yangtze River that it encompasses: "Wuchang" and "Hankou".
