Wish (/wɪʃ/), in the context of medical terminology, refers to a patient's desire or preference regarding their health care or treatment. The term is often used in discussions about patient autonomy, informed consent, and advance care planning.

Etymology

The term "wish" originates from the Old English word "wyscan", which means to desire or long for. In the medical context, it has been used since the late 20th century to refer to patients' preferences about their care.
