Wastewater (pronounced: /ˈweɪstˌwɔːtər/) is any water that has been adversely affected in quality by anthropogenic influence. It can originate from a combination of domestic, industrial, commercial or agricultural activities, stormwater runoff or sewer inflow or infiltration.
Etymology
The term "wastewater" is a combination of the words "waste" and "water". It is derived from the Old English "waste", meaning "to waste", and "water", which comes from the Old English "wæter".
