Washington Student Achievement Council

The Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) is a state agency in Washington State responsible for advancing educational opportunities and attainment in the state. The council was established in 2012, replacing the former Higher Education Coordinating Board.
Mission[edit]
The mission of the Washington Student Achievement Council is to ensure that all Washingtonians have access to high-quality education and training opportunities that lead to meaningful careers and enriched lives. The council aims to increase educational attainment and close achievement gaps among different demographic groups.
Responsibilities[edit]
The WSAC has several key responsibilities, including:
- Developing and implementing a strategic plan for higher education in Washington.
- Administering state financial aid programs, such as the Washington College Grant.
- Providing policy analysis and recommendations to the Washington State Legislature and the Governor of Washington.
- Coordinating with other state agencies, educational institutions, and community organizations to improve educational outcomes.

- Washington College Grant: A need-based financial aid program for low- and middle-income students.

Governance[edit]
The council is governed by a nine-member board, which includes representatives from the public and private sectors, as well as students and educators. The board members are appointed by the Governor of Washington and confirmed by the Washington State Senate.
