viral vector - (pronounced) (VY-rul VEK-ter) type of virus used in cancer therapy. The virus is modified in the laboratory and cannot cause disease. Viral vectors can produce tumor antigens (proteins found on a tumor cell) to stimulate an anti-tumor immune response in the body. Viral vectors can also be used to deliver genes that can turn cancer cells back into normal cells
