University of South Australia

The University of South Australia (UniSA) is a public research university in the Australian state of South Australia. It is a founding member of the Australian Technology Network of universities and is the largest university in South Australia with over 37,000 students.

History

The University of South Australia was formed in 1991 with the merger of the South Australian Institute of Technology and the Colleges of Advanced Education. Its origins, however, date back to 1856 with the establishment of the School of Art, which later became part of the South Australian School of Mines and Industries.

Early Years

The Jubilee Exhibition Building was an important site in the early history of the university, hosting the School of Mines and Industries. The Hartley Building and the Brookman Building on North Terrace are significant heritage sites that reflect the university's long-standing presence in Adelaide.

Recent Developments

In recent years, UniSA has expanded its facilities and programs, including the construction of the Jeffrey Smart Learning Centre and the UniSA Innovation Building. The university has also focused on increasing its research output and international collaborations.
