History
The United States Secret Service was created in 1865 to suppress counterfeit currency. It was established in the Department of the Treasury and was later transferred to the Department of Homeland Security in 2003.
Duties
The primary duties of the United States Secret Service include protecting the financial infrastructure and payment systems of the United States, preventing major cyber operations that could destabilize the economy, and protecting national leaders, visiting leaders, and their respective families.
