United Parcel Service (UPS) is an American multinational package delivery and supply chain management company. Founded in 1907 by James E. Casey in Seattle, Washington, UPS has grown to become one of the largest and most recognizable logistics and delivery companies in the world. The company's headquarters are located in Sandy Springs, Georgia, which is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area.
History[edit]
UPS was originally established as the American Messenger Company in 1907. The company primarily focused on delivering telegraphs and other small packages. In 1913, the company expanded its services to include parcel delivery for retail stores, and it was renamed Merchants Parcel Delivery. The company adopted its current name, United Parcel Service, in 1919.
Throughout the 20th century, UPS expanded its operations across the United States and internationally. In 1975, UPS became the first package delivery company to serve every address in the continental United States. The company went public in 1999, and its shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol UPS.
