Trooper, Pennsylvania

Trooper, Pennsylvania is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. The community is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area and is situated approximately 25 miles northwest of the city.

Geography

Trooper is located at 40°8′14″N 75°24′5″W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.4 square miles, all of it land. The community is primarily residential, with a mix of single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments.

History

The area now known as Trooper was originally settled in the early 18th century. The community's name is believed to have been derived from the local American Revolutionary War history, specifically the troopers who traveled through the area.

Demographics

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 5,744 people residing in Trooper. The racial makeup of the community was 91.5% White, 3.2% African American, 0.1% Native American, 3.7% Asian, 0.5% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.8% of the population.

Education

Trooper is served by the Methacton School District, which operates four elementary schools, a middle school, and Methacton High School. There are also several private schools in the area.

Transportation

Major roads in Trooper include Pennsylvania Route 363 and Pennsylvania Route 422. The community is also served by the SEPTA bus system.
