Treehouse of Horror XVI
Treehouse of Horror XVI is the sixteenth installment in the Treehouse of Horror series of The Simpsons Halloween specials. It originally aired on the Fox network in the United States on November 6, 2005. The episode features three self-contained segments: "B.I.: Bartificial Intelligence," "Survival of the Fattest," and "I've Grown a Costume on Your Face."
Plot
B.I.: Bartificial Intelligence
In this segment, Bart Simpson falls into a coma after attempting a daredevil stunt. The Simpson family decides to replace him with a robot boy named David. When Bart awakens from his coma, he becomes jealous of David and tries to get rid of him. Eventually, Bart and David are abandoned by the family and must find a way to coexist.
Survival of the Fattest
Homer Simpson and other male residents of Springfield are invited to a hunting trip by Mr. Burns. However, they soon discover that they are the prey in a deadly game of survival. The segment parodies the short story "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell.
I've Grown a Costume on Your Face
During a Halloween party, a witch turns the residents of Springfield into their costumes. Marge Simpson becomes a witch, Lisa Simpson becomes Albert Einstein, and Homer Simpson becomes a headless horseman. The segment explores the chaos that ensues as the townspeople try to adapt to their new forms.
Production
"Treehouse of Horror XVI" was directed by David Silverman and written by Marc Wilmore. The episode continues the tradition of the annual Halloween specials, which are known for their non-canon, horror-themed stories.
Reception
The episode received mixed reviews from critics. Some praised the creativity of the segments, while others felt it did not live up to previous installments in the series. Despite this, "Treehouse of Horror XVI" remains a popular episode among fans of The Simpsons.
