Transient
Transient
Transient (/trænˈziː.ənt/; from Latin transiens, from transire "to pass over") is a term used in various fields of medicine to describe a condition, symptom, or event that is temporary or short-lived.
Medical Usage
In medicine, the term "transient" is often used to describe symptoms or conditions that occur suddenly and last only a short time. This can include Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), Transient Global Amnesia (TGA), and Transient Neonatal Pustular Melanosis (TNPM), among others.
Transient Ischemic Attack
A Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) is a brief episode of neurological dysfunction caused by loss of blood flow (ischemia) in the brain, spinal cord, or retina, without tissue death (infarction). TIAs are often labeled as "mini-strokes," because they can be a warning sign of a future stroke.
Transient Global Amnesia
Transient Global Amnesia (TGA) is a sudden, temporary episode of memory loss that can't be attributed to a more common neurological condition, such as epilepsy or stroke. During an episode of TGA, a person's recall of recent events simply vanishes.
Transient Neonatal Pustular Melanosis
Transient Neonatal Pustular Melanosis (TNPM) is a benign, idiopathic skin condition of newborns. It is characterized by small, sterile pustules that rupture to leave pigmented macules.
