Totalitarianism is a political system in which the state recognizes no limits to its authority and strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life wherever feasible. Totalitarianism has been widely criticized for its violation of human rights and the suppression of individual freedoms. Critics argue that totalitarian regimes dehumanize individuals, reduce them to mere components of the state, and destroy the social fabric by undermining trust and encouraging the surveillance and reporting of peers.
