Toledo is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. It is located at the western end of Lake Erie and borders the state of Michigan. Toledo is known as "The Glass City" due to its long history of glass manufacturing.
History
Toledo was founded in 1833 on the west bank of the Maumee River, and it was incorporated in 1837. The city grew rapidly after the Miami and Erie Canal connected it to Cincinnati and the Ohio River in 1845. The arrival of the railroad in the 1850s further stimulated growth.
