The Three Musketeers
The Three Musketeers (French: Les Trois Mousquetaires) is a historical adventure novel written by Alexandre Dumas. It was first serialized in 1844 and is set in the 17th century during the reign of Louis XIII. The novel recounts the adventures of a young man named d'Artagnan after he leaves home to become a musketeer of the Guard.
Plot Summary[edit]
The story begins with d'Artagnan leaving his home in Gascony to travel to Paris with the hope of joining the Musketeers of the Guard. He carries a letter of introduction to Monsieur de Tréville, the commander of the Musketeers. However, the letter is stolen by the mysterious Milady de Winter.
In Paris, d'Artagnan befriends three musketeers: Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. Together, they become involved in various intrigues and adventures, including thwarting the schemes of the villainous Cardinal Richelieu and his agent, Milady de Winter.
