The Gordie Foundation
The Gordie Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of alcohol abuse and hazing among college students. The foundation was established in memory of Gordie Bailey, a student who tragically died from alcohol poisoning during a fraternity hazing incident.
History
The Gordie Foundation was founded in 2004 by Leslie Lanahan, Gordie Bailey's mother, following his death in 2004. The foundation aims to educate students, parents, and educators about the dangers of alcohol abuse and hazing, and to promote healthy and safe campus environments.
Mission
The mission of The Gordie Foundation is to prevent alcohol-related deaths and injuries, and to eliminate hazing on college campuses. The foundation seeks to achieve this through education, advocacy, and the promotion of responsible behavior among students.
Programs
The Gordie Foundation offers several programs and resources to support its mission:
- GordieCheck - A tool designed to help students recognize the signs of alcohol poisoning and take appropriate action.
- Gordie's Call - An educational campaign that encourages students to call for help if they suspect someone is suffering from alcohol poisoning.
- Hazing Prevention - Initiatives aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of hazing and promoting anti-hazing policies on college campuses.
Impact
Since its inception, The Gordie Foundation has reached thousands of students across the United States through its educational programs and advocacy efforts. The foundation has partnered with numerous colleges and universities to implement its programs and has been instrumental in promoting policy changes to enhance student safety.
