The Glenlivet Distillery

The Glenlivet Distillery is a renowned distillery located in the region of Speyside, Scotland. It is known for producing single malt Scotch whisky and has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century.

History

The Glenlivet Distillery was officially established in 1824 by George Smith, although illicit distillation was known to have taken place in the area for many years prior. Smith was the first in the Glenlivet parish to apply for a legal distilling license, following the Excise Act of 1823. The distillery has since been in continuous operation, with the exception of a few years during the World War II when it was forced to close due to barley rationing.

Production

The Glenlivet Distillery produces a range of single malt Scotch whiskies, using traditional methods of distillation. The distillery sources its water from Josie's Well, a natural spring located nearby. The whisky is matured in a variety of casks, including American oak and sherry oak, which contribute to the distinct flavor profiles of the different expressions.

Products

The Glenlivet Distillery offers a wide range of whiskies, from the classic 12-year-old to the prestigious 25-year-old. Each expression has its own unique characteristics, influenced by factors such as the type of cask used for maturation and the length of aging. Some of the notable products include:
