The Dream of Rhonabwy is a Middle Welsh prose tale that is part of the Mabinogion, a collection of Welsh myths and legends. The tale is set during the time of King Arthur and follows the story of Rhonabwy, a young warrior who falls asleep and experiences a vivid dream filled with fantastical elements.

Summary

In the dream, Rhonabwy is visited by the knight Iddawc who takes him on a journey to the court of King Arthur. There, Rhonabwy witnesses a series of bizarre and humorous events, including a game of chess played with living pieces and a battle between two magical animals. Throughout the dream, Rhonabwy interacts with various characters from Arthurian legend, such as Sir Kay and Owain mab Urien.

Themes

The Dream of Rhonabwy explores themes of chivalry, honor, and the supernatural. The tale is filled with fantastical elements and serves as a reflection of the medieval Welsh society's fascination with Arthurian legends and heroic deeds.
