Pronunciation

  • Test-retest reliability: /ˈtɛst riːˈtɛst rɪˌlaɪəˈbɪlɪti/

Etymology

The term "Test-retest reliability" is derived from the English words "test", "retest", and "reliability". The term "test" comes from the Old French tester meaning "to bear witness", "retest" is a compound of "re-" and "test" indicating a repetition of the test, and "reliability" comes from the Latin reliabilis meaning "trustworthy".

Definition

Test-retest reliability refers to the degree to which test scores are consistent from one test administration to the next. Measurements are gathered from a single rater who uses the same methods or instruments and the same testing conditions. This includes short-term and long-term retesting.
