Finnish Road Race Joonas Henttala Team Novo Nordisk is a global all-diabetes professional cycling team that competes in the UCI ProSeries. It is unique in the world of professional sports, as all members of the team, including riders, coaches, and staff, have diabetes. The team's mission is to inspire, educate, and empower people affected by diabetes.

History

Team Novo Nordisk originated from the merger of Team Type 1 and Team Novo Nordisk in December 2012. The former, Team Type 1, was founded in 2004 by Phil Southerland and Joe Eldridge, two cyclists with Type 1 diabetes. Their vision was to compete at a professional level, despite their condition, and to raise awareness about diabetes. In 2012, the team partnered with Novo Nordisk, a global healthcare company with a special focus on diabetes care, and thus, Team Novo Nordisk was born.

Team Philosophy

The philosophy of Team Novo Nordisk is centered around showcasing what is possible with diabetes. The team aims to inspire others with diabetes to embrace their condition and to pursue their dreams without limitations. Through their participation in professional races and their presence in the media, they hope to change perceptions about diabetes and to demonstrate the effectiveness of proper diabetes management.

Achievements

Team Novo Nordisk has competed in various international cycling competitions, including the UCI World Tour events. Their participation not only highlights their competitive spirit but also serves as a platform to reach out to the global diabetes community. The team has notched several notable results in its history, proving that athletes with diabetes can perform at the highest levels of professional sport.

Community Outreach

Apart from competing, Team Novo Nordisk engages in numerous outreach programs aimed at educating people about diabetes. They conduct diabetes awareness campaigns, participate in community events, and offer support to those affected by diabetes. The team members serve as ambassadors, sharing their personal stories and experiences to motivate others.

Future Goals

The future goals of Team Novo Nordisk include continuing to compete at the highest levels of professional cycling, while also expanding their outreach and educational programs. They aim to further their research into diabetes and sports performance, seeking to improve the lives of those with diabetes through sport.
