Tastykake
Tastykake is a brand of snack foods, known for its line of packaged baked goods. The brand is a part of the Tasty Baking Company, which was founded in 1914 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The company's products have a strong cultural association with the Philadelphia region.
History[edit]
The Tasty Baking Company was established by Philip J. Baur and Herbert T. Morris in 1914. The duo aimed to produce baked goods using quality ingredients, which were then individually wrapped for freshness. The first Tastykake product was a small cake, which was sold for 10 cents. The company's product line quickly expanded to include a variety of other baked goods.
Products[edit]
Tastykake offers a wide range of products, including cupcakes, pies, cookies, donuts, and brownies. Some of the brand's most popular items include the Krimpet, a sponge cake available in flavors like Butterscotch and Jelly; the Kandy Kake, a chocolate-covered cake with a peanut butter filling; and the Pecan Swirl, a sweet roll with a pecan filling.
Cultural Significance[edit]
Tastykake has a significant cultural presence in the Philadelphia region. The brand's products are often associated with Philadelphia's culinary traditions and are a staple in many local households. Tastykake has also been featured in various forms of media, including films and television shows set in Philadelphia.
Acquisition[edit]
In 2011, the Tasty Baking Company was acquired by Flowers Foods, a leading producer of packaged bakery foods in the United States. Despite the acquisition, the Tastykake brand has continued to operate out of Philadelphia and its products are still made in the city.
