Tariff (pronunciation: /ˈtarɪf/) is a term used in the field of Healthcare economics and Health policy to refer to a system of pricing for medical services.

Etymology

The term 'tariff' originates from the Arabic word 'ta'rif', which means 'notification' or 'inventory'. It was first used in English in the 16th century to refer to a list of prices.

Definition

In the context of healthcare, a tariff is a list of fixed prices assigned to specific medical procedures, treatments, or services. These prices are often set by a Healthcare regulator or Government agency, and are used to determine the amount that healthcare providers are reimbursed for the services they provide.
