Target Corporation is an American retail company headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. Founded by George Draper Dayton in 1902 as Dayton Dry Goods Company, Target has grown to become one of the largest retailers in the United States, operating over 1,900 stores across the country<ref>Target Corporation - About Us</ref>.   • Target Corporation traces its roots back to 1902 when George Draper Dayton founded Dayton Dry Goods Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota.   • In 1969, the company merged with J.L. Hudson Company, a Detroit-based department store, to form the Dayton Hudson Corporation.
