Stone Brewing Co.
American craft brewery
Stone Brewing Co. is a renowned craft brewery located in Escondido, California. Founded in 1996 by Greg Koch and Steve Wagner, Stone Brewing has become one of the largest and most influential craft breweries in the United States. Known for its bold and flavorful beers, Stone Brewing has played a significant role in the craft beer movement.
History
Stone Brewing Co. was established in 1996 in San Marcos, California, before moving to its current location in Escondido in 2005. The founders, Greg Koch and Steve Wagner, were inspired by the burgeoning craft beer scene and sought to create beers that were unique and full of character. Their first beer, Stone Pale Ale, set the tone for the brewery's future offerings.
In 2006, Stone Brewing opened the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens, a restaurant and beer garden that showcases their beers alongside a menu of locally sourced food. The bistro has become a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
Expansion
Over the years, Stone Brewing has expanded its operations significantly. In 2014, the company announced plans to open a brewery in Berlin, Germany, marking its first foray into international markets. The Berlin brewery opened in 2016, although it was later sold in 2019.
In 2016, Stone Brewing opened a new facility in Richmond, Virginia, to better serve the East Coast market. This expansion allowed Stone to increase its production capacity and reduce shipping times for its beers.
Beers
Stone Brewing is known for its wide range of beers, many of which are characterized by their bold flavors and high IBU ratings. Some of their most popular offerings include:
- Stone IPA: A classic India Pale Ale with a strong hop profile and citrus notes.
- Arrogant Bastard Ale: A strong ale with a rich malt backbone and aggressive hop character.
- Stone Ruination IPA: A double IPA known for its intense bitterness and hop aroma.
Sustainability
Stone Brewing is committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The brewery has implemented various initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint, including the use of solar panels, water reclamation systems, and sustainable packaging.
Community Involvement
Stone Brewing is actively involved in the local community, supporting various charitable organizations and events. The company hosts an annual charity event, the Stone Anniversary Celebration & Invitational Beer Festival, which raises funds for local charities.
