Stillwater is a city located in the state of Oklahoma, United States. It is the county seat of Payne County and is situated in the north-central part of the state. With a population of approximately 50,000, Stillwater is the tenth-largest city in Oklahoma.
History
The city of Stillwater was established in 1884 during the Oklahoma Land Run. It was named after the nearby Stillwater Creek, which was named by Native Americans for its calm and clear waters. The area was originally inhabited by the Native American Osage tribe.
