Etymology

The term "starfish" is derived from the star-like appearance of its body structure. The term "Asteroidea" comes from the Greek "aster" meaning star, and "eidos" meaning form or shape.

Description

Starfish are marine invertebrates. They typically have a central disc and five arms, though some species have more. The upper surface is often brightly coloured and can be smooth, granular or spiny.
