Sport Fishing

Sport fishing (pronounced: /spɔːrt ˈfɪʃɪŋ/), also known as recreational fishing, is a form of fishing for pleasure or competition. It is contrasted with commercial fishing, which is fishing for profit, or subsistence fishing, which is fishing for survival.

Etymology

The term "sport fishing" has its origins in the English language. The word "sport" comes from the Old French desport meaning "leisure", while "fishing" is derived from the Old English fiscian, meaning "to catch fish".
