Southern Family Markets

Southern Family Markets was a chain of supermarkets based in the United States. The company was a subsidiary of C&S Wholesale Grocers, the largest wholesale grocery supply company in the U.S. The chain operated stores under several banners, including Southern Family Markets, Piggly Wiggly, and Bruno's.

History

Southern Family Markets was established in 2005 after C&S Wholesale Grocers acquired the assets of BI-LO LLC and Bruno's Supermarkets. The company operated stores in several states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi.

Store Formats

Southern Family Markets operated several different store formats, including traditional supermarkets, discount grocery stores, and combination food and drug stores. The company's stores were known for their focus on customer service and quality products.

Brands

Southern Family Markets offered a variety of private label brands, including the Southern Family brand. The company also carried national brand products.

Closure

In 2012, Southern Family Markets announced that it would be closing all of its stores. The company cited economic conditions and increased competition as reasons for the closure.
