Sonora (/səˈnɔːrə/; Spanish pronunciation: [soˈnoɾa]) is a state in Northwestern Mexico.
Etymology
The name Sonora is believed to come from the word "Senora," a title used to honor the Virgin Mary. However, the exact etymology is unknown.
