Soberana Plus

Soberana Plus (pronunciation: so-be-ra-na pluhs) is a COVID-19 vaccine developed by the Finlay Institute in Cuba. It is part of the Soberana family of vaccines, which also includes Soberana 01 and Soberana 02.

Etymology

The term "Soberana" is derived from the Spanish word for "sovereign," reflecting Cuba's aim to achieve health sovereignty by developing its own vaccines. The "Plus" signifies an additional or enhanced version of the original Soberana vaccine.

Description

Soberana Plus is a protein subunit vaccine, which means it uses a harmless piece of the virus to trigger an immune response. It is designed to be used as a booster shot following a two-dose regimen of Soberana 02.

Efficacy

According to the Finlay Institute, when Soberana Plus is used as a booster following Soberana 02, the combination has shown an efficacy rate of over 90% in preventing symptomatic COVID-19.
