Sir Salimullah Medical College
Sir Salimullah Medical College (pronunciation: Sir Sa-lim-ul-lah Medical College) is a government-funded medical school located in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. It was established in 1875 and named after the late Nawab Sir Salimullah of Dhaka.
Etymology
The college is named after Sir Salimullah, a noted Muslim noble of the Dhaka Nawab Family. Sir Salimullah was a key proponent of the Partition of Bengal and is noted for his efforts in educational and social development.
History
The college was established in 1875 as Dhaka Medical School. In 1962, it was renamed as Sir Salimullah Medical College, in honor of Sir Salimullah's contributions to the region. The college has a rich history and has produced many notable physicians and surgeons.
Courses
The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various medical disciplines. The undergraduate course, leading to a MBBS degree, is a five-year course followed by a one-year internship.
