Singha

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

Singha is a pale lager produced by Boon Rawd Brewery, the first and largest brewery in Thailand. The brand was launched in 1933 and has since become an iconic symbol of Thai culture and pride. Singha is recognized worldwide for its distinctive taste and quality.

History

Singha was first brewed by Boon Rawd Brewery, a company founded by Phraya Bhirom Bhakdi, a wealthy Thai Chinese businessman. The brewery was granted a royal warrant from King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) to display the royal Garuda on the beer label. This made Singha the first beer to be brewed in Thailand and the only beer permitted to display the royal symbol.

Production

Singha is brewed with 100% premium barley malt, making it a full-bodied lager. The brewing process follows the German Reinheitsgebot (beer purity law), which allows only water, barley, and hops as ingredients. The beer is known for its strong and rich flavor, with a 5% alcohol by volume (ABV).

Market and Distribution

Singha is not only popular in Thailand but is also exported to over 50 countries worldwide. It has a strong presence in the UK, US, and other European markets. The brand has also sponsored various sports events, including the English Premier League and the F1 Grand Prix.

Cultural Impact

Singha has become a symbol of Thai pride and is often associated with Thai culture. It is commonly served in Thai restaurants worldwide and is a staple at Thai celebrations and festivals.
