History[edit]

The foundation of the Singapore National Eye Centre was driven by the increasing demand for specialized eye care services in the late 1980s. Recognizing the need for a dedicated center to address the growing prevalence of eye diseases and to advance ophthalmic research and education in Singapore, the government, along with key ophthalmology leaders, initiated the establishment of SNEC.

SNEC is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and offers a wide range of ophthalmic services covering all major subspecialties in eye care. These include Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Cornea and External Eye Disease, Glaucoma, Retina, Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, and Oculoplastics. The center is also renowned for its advanced diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical solutions, which are supported by cutting-edge technology and research.

A cornerstone of SNEC's mission is to advance research and education in ophthalmology. The center is actively involved in numerous clinical trials and research projects aimed at understanding eye diseases better and developing new treatments. SNEC also plays a pivotal role in the education and training of future ophthalmologists and eye research scientists. It offers various fellowship programs, workshops, and seminars in collaboration with the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI), which is its research arm.

International Collaboration[edit]

SNEC has established strong international collaborations with leading eye centers and research institutes around the world. These partnerships facilitate the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and technology, further enhancing SNEC's capabilities in providing high-quality eye care and advancing ophthalmic research and education.
