Silibinin
Silibinin (also known as silybin) is a major active constituent of silymarin, a standardized extract of the milk thistle seeds containing a mixture of flavonolignans consisting of silibinin, isosilibinin, silychristin, silydianin, and others. Silibinin itself is a mixture of two diastereomers, silybin A and silybin B, in approximately equimolar ratio. Derived from the plant species Silybum marianum (milk thistle), it has been used in traditional medicine for centuries, primarily for the treatment of liver diseases.
