Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College is a prestigious medical institution located in Yavatmal, Maharashtra, India. Established in 1989, it is named after Shri Vasantrao Naik, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The college is affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and is recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

History[edit]

Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College was established with the aim of providing quality medical education and healthcare services to the people of Yavatmal and its surrounding regions. The foundation stone of the college was laid by Shri Sharad Pawar, the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, on 18th October 1989. The college started functioning in 1990 with an initial intake of 50 students for the MBBS program.

Campus[edit]

The college campus is spread over a sprawling area of 50 acres and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. It houses various departments, including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, and more. The campus also includes a library, auditorium, hostels for students, staff quarters, and sports facilities.

Courses Offered[edit]

Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of medicine. The undergraduate program leads to the degree of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), which has an intake capacity of 150 students per year. The college also offers postgraduate programs in various specialties, including MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Surgery), with an intake capacity of 79 students per year.
