Scuba Educators International

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

Scuba Educators International (SEI Diving) is a globally recognized scuba diving certification agency. It was established with the aim of promoting safe and enjoyable scuba diving experiences through comprehensive training and education.

History

SEI Diving was originally known as the YMCA Scuba Program, which was the first nationally organized course of instruction for civilian divers in the United States. The program was initiated in 1959 and continued under the YMCA banner until 2008. After the YMCA decided to discontinue the program, a group of former YMCA Scuba Program leaders founded Scuba Educators International to continue the legacy and high standards of training set by the YMCA Scuba Program.

Training and Certification

SEI Diving offers a wide range of scuba diving courses and certifications, from beginner to professional levels. The training programs are designed to provide divers with the necessary skills and knowledge to dive safely and confidently. The courses include Open Water Diver, Advanced Diver, Rescue Diver, Dive Leader, and various specialty courses such as Deep Diver, Night Diver, and Underwater Photographer among others.

Recognition

SEI Diving is recognized by the World Recreational Scuba Training Council (WRSTC), which sets the minimum training standards for scuba diving certification agencies worldwide. This recognition ensures that SEI Diving certifications are accepted and respected globally.

Affiliations

SEI Diving is affiliated with various organizations in the diving industry. These include the Diving Equipment and Marketing Association (DEMA), the Handicapped Scuba Association (HSA), and the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI).
